A Lenoir man was charged with murder early Friday morning after, authorities said, he told a police officer that he had just killed his wife and her lover.

Barney Adrian Dunlap, 46, was charged with murder and attempted murder after his estranged wife, Roslyn Fox Dunlap, and her boyfriend were found in her home with gunshot wounds, Lenoir police said.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m., authorities said, Dunlap walked up to an officer parked in downtown Lenoir and said he killed his wife and the man with her.

Dunlap was arrested, and officers went to Roslyn Dunlap's home, where they found 32-year-old Gerald Keith Lakey of Bremerton, Wash., dead from shotgun wounds. Dunlap, 45, had also been shot, police said, and was in critical condition Friday afternoon at Baptist Medical Center.

The Dunlaps had recently split, authorities said, and were no longer living together.

Barney Dunlap was being held Friday without bond at the Caldwell County jail.
