Root: 1 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon,
Colchagua Valley, Chile. $8.50 at Costco.
Consider this a wine for the times: As your 401(k) is in the low 3s, you'd like to save a few bucks on the monthly wine bill, but you don't want to compromise all that much on what goes in your glass. This little gem from Chile, a recent addition to the Costco wine rack, holds its own from both taste and bargain points of view. It needs a little time to open up. But you'll find Root: 1 to be a red you can count on in these oh-so-uncertain times.
