Enjoy Mexican culture at History Center

Next Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., visitors to the Atlanta History Center will be admitted to the 33-acre Buckhead campus free. The day is dedicated to cultural exploration and will feature the annual Day of the Dead celebration and bilingual exhibition "Through the Lens of MundoHispanico: Georgia's Hispanic Community."

The day's events will include storytelling, elaborately decorated altars, Mexican food, music and performances. Visitors can learn about the festival's roots in Mexican history. A highlight of the festival is the decorative altars, or shrines, showcased in the Grand Overlook Ballroom. Those who created them will be on hand to speak to visitors about the tradition behind the objects. The exhibition "Through the Lens of MundoHispanico," on display through Jan. 3, features photographs and stories blended with newspaper articles highlighting the contributions of Hispanics to Atlanta and Georgia business, politics and the arts. The exhibition is presented in English and Spanish. The museum also offers activities for children in the Kid Corner. The museum is at 130 W. Paces Ferry Road N.W.
