More Information

A fire truck responding to a traffic wreck on Interstate 77 was involved in a collision of its own Monday morning on South Boulevard in Charlotte.

The collision happened about 10:20 a.m. a short distance south of Woodlawn Road.

All lanes near the wreck are open now.

A Charlotte Fire Department truck from Engine Company 12 was northbound on South Boulevard, headed to I-77 to deal with a wreck. The fire truck appeared to have crossed into the southbound lane near the Woodlawn Road intersection, and the truck collided head-on with an SUV.

One person from the SUV was transported by Medic for treatment. Four firefighters aboard the truck were checked by Medic and will go to the hospital for evaluation, fire officials said.

The southbound lanes of South Boulevard were closed for a while but have been reopened.
