If the 218 survey takers are a valid representation, many I-277 users want a cap over the highway and safer paths for pedestrians and cyclists.
The city's Department of Transportation recently revealed the results of a survey offered on the CDOT Web site, which was fully completed by 187 of the respondents.
The results likely caught the attention of city leaders and traffic officials, who last week took part in a four-day planning session that included talks of an I-277 cap.
According to the survey, 72 percent of respondents favor a cap connecting South End and Uptown, with more than 85 percent wanting some type of recreational activity on it.
Sixty-four percent said a buffer between I-277 and a pedestrian path would be “very effective,” and 77 percent said the same for off-street bike paths.

STREET CLOSING: Remount Road from Barringer Drive to the Briar Creek bridge has been reduced to one lane in each direction for the installation of water lines along Remount. This will remain until at least Sept. 12.
