The driver of a car that collided with a church van Monday night near Shelby faces DWI charges in the case.

The N.C. Highway Patrol says Kelly McAteer Bowman, 43, was charged with driving left of center and driving while impaired.

Troopers say Bowman was driving a Kia that went across the center line on N.C. 180 and collided with the van from Light Oak Baptist Church. The collision happened shortly before 10 p.m. near Cleveland Avenue.

Eight people in the van, along with Bowman, were injured. Troopers say none of the injuries is thought to be life-threatening.
