High School Football Players of the Week

Each Sunday, the Observer names an overall football player of the week and top performers from other classifications.

OVERALL: Indian Trail Sun Valley quarterback Andy Capone, who passed for five touchdowns and ran for another in a 49-7 victory against Weddington, is the Observer player of the week. Capone, a senior, was 11-of-15 for 178 yards. His scoring passes were 48, 18, 22, 16 and 20 yards.

4A: West Charlotte cornerback Ardy Holmes had three interceptions, including one he returned 80 yards for a touchdown, in a 31-13 victory against Harding.

2A: Lincolnton quarterback Brandon Wilson ran for three touchdowns and passed for one in a 49-23 victory against Maiden. He threw for 91 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown to Jordan Wright.

1A/PRIVATE: Charlotte Latin's Ross Cockrell scored touchdowns three ways to spark a 56-0 victory against the Raleigh Titans. He had a 63-yard run, a 43-yard reception and a 62-yard interception return. Cliff Mehrtens
