For the first time in recent memory, North Carolina donned Navy blue pants (with abbreviated light blue bolt down the sides) to go along with its road white jersey. A team spokesman confirmed that a navy jersey has also been added to the available rotation, but he did not know when or whether it will be worn this year.
On the seventh anniversary of 9/11, Rutgers remembered those killed and the 4,000 soldiers from the New Jersey National Guard currently serving overseas with several ceremonies, including a moment of silence, a flyover, and a halftime video tribute. After both teams took the field, one of the New Jersey National Guard's top Army Generals escorted the Rutgers captains to mid-field and flipped the coin.
Opposing fans tend to get sick of hearing about North Carolina's youth. But it is a fact. According to the Tar Heels' game notes, only four other teams in the country have fewer seniors than the Heels (who have 11). Alabama and Middle Tennessee have only nine, and Central Michigan and Toledo boast only 10. (Minnesota also has 11).
