The first section of the Four Mile Creek Greenway opens Oct. 11.
Mecklenburg Park and Recreation hosts a celebration at 10 a.m. by the parking lot and restrooms near the 11900 block of Johnston Road.
Residents are invited to bike or jog in the inaugural ride on the new path.
This section is a 2.1-mile extension of the McMullen and McAlpine Creek greenways between Rea and Johnston roads, creating more than six continuous miles of trails. Parking near the site is limited.
