Davidson's basketball program has received verbal commitments from two players, one of whom could be the “gem” of its class, according to a prominent recruiting analyst.
The Wildcats have landed high school seniors J.P. Kuhlman, a 6-foot-3 guard from Providence Christian in Riverview, Fla., and Jake Cohen from Berwyn, Pa.
“Kuhlman could be the gem of their class,” said Scout.com recruiting expert Dave Telep. “I think he was very underrecruited.”
Kuhlman, who averaged 17 points as a junior and is a quality shooter, also had offers from William & Mary, North Florida and Jacksonville.
“He will be an elite-level mid-major player,” Telep said. “He's not the prettiest player, but he has unbelievable confidence and should be an outstanding combo guard.”
The Wildcats also added Cohen, a 6-10, 200-pound center.
“His best days are ahead of him,” Telep said of Cohen, who has a good shooting touch and can shoot the 3-pointer. “He has big size for a Southern Conference center, but he has to develop first.”
Cohen also had offers from Penn State and Nebraska.
