DENVER Carmelo Anthony sat out the Denver Nuggets' preseason opener against Minnesota on Friday night because of a bruised left ring finger.
Anthony was injured when he had the ball slapped out of his hand during practice Thursday. He attended Friday's shootaround with his hand wrapped, but did not participate.
The 24-year-old averaged 25.7 points and a career-high 7.4 rebounds last season. He was a key member of the U.S. team that won the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics.

KNICKS 110, 76ERS 104: David Lee had 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead New York in a preseason game.
Elton Brand led the 76ers with 24 points, Andre Iguodala added 16 and Andre Miller had 12 points and 12 assists.
After struggling in his first game, Brand was dominant in the first quarter, scoring 18 points on 7-for-8 shooting to give Philadelphia a 38-22 lead at the end of the quarter.
HORNETS 89, SPURS 84: Reserve Mike James scored 18 points while Tyson Chandler added 14 on 7-of-9 shooting and New Orleans beat host San Antonio.
The Hornets (3-0) are off to their best preseason start since they went 4-0 in Charlotte in 1990.
PACERS: Center Jeff Foster signed a contract extension.
Shawne Williams was traded by Indiana to Dallas for two second-round future draft picks, cash and possibly another player, his agent said.
