NBC'S 'Worst' is one of fall's best bets

MY OWN WORST ENEMY

Series premiere

at 10 tonight on NBC

Basic story: Meet Henry, an average guy with a very average life: humdrum job, wife, two kids, house in the suburbs. Now meet Edward: a top-secret operative with a thrilling job, who is passionate about little except the women he must woo to accomplish a mission. When Henry meets Edward, though, there's a little problem, because Henry is Edward. Turns out the two share the same body as part of a government spy program, and when the psychological wall between them begins to crack, things quickly get dangerous – for both of them.

What it faces: “Boston Legal” on ABC and “CSI: Miami” on CBS.

What you'll love: This fast-moving show will make an hour of your life fly by: The premise is as clever as the actors are talented. Christian Slater makes the move to TV to play the polar-opposite roles of Henry/Edward, and he nails the nuances of each. Four-time Emmy winner Alfre Woodard adds to the top-notch cast with her take as the boss at the government organization that controls Henry and Edward's life.

What you won't: Edward knows about Henry. But when the program is working properly, Henry is clueless about Edward. It all makes for an intriguing plot, yet the show might be a bit confusing at times. (Then again, that hardly stops us from watching “Lost,” “Heroes” or many other shows.)

Bottom line: “My Own Worst Enemy” is one of fall TV's best bets.
