The Davidson Wildcats haven't played their first men's basketball game this season but the expectations keep mounting.
To no one's surprise, the Wildcats were the overwhelming choice to win the Southern Conference's South Division in a vote by media members at the league's annual tip-off luncheon Thursday in Charlotte.
Junior All-America guard Stephen Curry was voted the league's preseason player of the year.
Davidson received 19 of 20 first-place votes among media members, with The College of Charleston getting the other vote. Chattanooga was picked to win the North Division, with Elon second.
In a similar vote by league coaches, the Wildcats were also picked to win the South Division. After an electrifying run to the Elite Eight in last season's NCAA tournament, the Wildcats return three starters and four of their top six scorers, led by Curry.
Davidson will open the regular season Nov. 14 at Belk Arena at 9 p.m. against Guilford.
Senior Andrew Lovedale was named to the All-Southern Conference preseason team along with Curry.
Also making the team were Appalachian State's Donald Sims; Nicchaeuis Doaks and Stephen McDowell of Chattanooga; Andrew Goudelcok and Jermaine Johnson of The College of Charleston; Western Carolina's Brandon Giles; Elon's Brett James and Cameron Wells of The Citadel.
