Each Sunday, the Observer names an overall high school football player of the week and top performers from other classifications.
OVERALL: West Rowan running back Kevin Parks, who ran for 225 yards and four touchdowns in a 33-6 victory against Mooresville, is the Observer's player of the week. Parks' performance helped the Falcons win the North Piedmont 3A championship and improve to 10-1.
4A: West Charlotte's Scoot Simmons rushed for 172 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-21 victory against Vance, helping the Lions win their first ME-CA 7 4A championship since 1999.
2A: Shelby's Larry Raper ran for 165 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries and caught a 64-yard touchdown pass in a 34-14 victory against East Rutherford.
1A/Private: Providence Day's Blake Wylie caught six passes for 94 yards and a touchdown in a 14-13 playoff loss to Raleigh Ravenscroft. His score was a 48-yarder from Gary Scott.
