Maryland men capture 3rd ACC title

CARY Second-seeded Maryland opened in an offensive mode and ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player Jeremy Hall found the net at 2minutes, 38seconds to give the Terps the title with a 1-0 men's victory Sunday against fourth-seeded Virginia.

Maryland (18-3) won in front of a crowd of 1,513 at WakeMed Soccer Park. The ACC title is the Terps' third and first since 2002.

The Cavaliers (11-8-1) had their chances, but defenders Omar Gonzalez, Rich Costanzo, A.J. Delagarza and Rodney Wallace helped goalkeeper Zac MacMath record the shutout.

WINTHROP 4, COASTAL CAROLINA 3 (2OT): The Eagles (15-5-1) led 2-0 and 3-2 but needed Daniel Revivo's goal during the second overtime to beat the Chanticleers for their second Big South title in three seasons and the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

EMORY 1, N.C. WESLEYAN 1 (PK): Freshman Owen White got the Bishops (16-3-2) to overtime, but Jordan Edelman's shootout goal gave the host Eagles (16-1-1) the NCAA Division III second-round win.

Women

DUKE 1, WILLIAM & MARY 0: KayAnne Gummersall scored in the seventh minute and Cassidy Powers made it stand up as the host Blue Devils (14-5-3) ousted the Tribe and set up a matchup with Virginia.

JAMES MADISON 1, WAKE FOREST 0: Lindsay Bowers' header in the 82nd minute gave the Dukes (14-6-2) the second-round NCAA tournament victory at Wake Forest (13-8-0).

VIRGINIA 3, WEST VIRGINIA 2: Maggie Kistner and Lauren Alwine scored 46 seconds apart late in the first half to give the host Cavaliers (15-4-3) a 3-0 lead in the second round of the NCAA tournament game. Deanna Everrett scored in the 46th and 64th minutes for the Mountaineers (14-3-6).

FLORIDA STATE 1, AUBURN 0: Redshirt freshman Jessica Price scored in the 39th minute and the Seminoles (16-2-3) eliminated the host Tigers (12-9-2) from the NCAA tournament for the fourth time. Florida State advances to the third round for the fourth straight year.

COLUMBUS STATE 2, CATAWBA 0: Gina Goforth and Rachel Walthall scored first-half goals that propelled the host Cougars (20-3-1) past the Indians (16-5-2) in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.
