Engagement etiquette

Traditionally, the brides parents are informed first about the engagement, and then the grooms parents are told. Once both sets of parents have been notified, the grooms mother should contact the brides mother and arrange for the parents to meet. If this is not possible, they could keep in touch through written letters, telephone conversations and email.
You can let close friends and relatives know about your engagement in person, by telephone or with a note. You will also want to announce your engagement in one or more local and hometown newspapers, if either of you is from another locale. Of course, everyone will become aware of your engagement once they have seen your beautiful new ring!
