South snubs the swine vaccine

By The (Columbia) State

Most southerners say they are not worried about contracting the H1N1 virus. According to a recent Winthrop University poll:

Keep your vaccine

Nearly 60 percent of Southerners say they do not intend to get an H1N1 vaccination, as 55 percent of respondents say they are not concerned about them or a family member contracting swine flu.

Protecting children

A majority of Southerners - 53 percent - said they have had their minor children vaccinated or plan to get their children vaccinated. But 45 percent say they haven not and do not plan to get the vaccine for their minor children.

Business as usual

While there have been widespread reports of parents keeping their kids home from school or daycare fearing H1N1 infection, just 10 percent of southerners say they have done that. Conversely, 88 percent of Southerners say they have not considered keeping their children home from school or daycare out of swine flu fears.
