Family Fun the week of Feb. 8

FRIDAY

Monster Jam Monster Truck Racing: Watch 12-feet tall, 10,000-pound Monster Jam monster trucks race down and rip up a custom-designed track full of obstacles to soar over or smash through. Tickets range from $18-$50.

Preschool Theme Parties (1-5 years): Preschoolers will enjoy Valentine's Day games, activities, crafts, snacks and more, 10 a.m. at Ray’s Splash Planet. You must pre-register. $6 per child. Don't forget to bring your bathing suit and towel because classes include an all day pass to Ray's Splash Planet for you and your toddler on class days.

Alvin Ailey Dance Theater: Led by acclaimed Artistic Director Judith Jamison, the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre presents a diverse repertory of revered classics, recent favorites, exciting premieres and dramatic new productions 8 p.m. at Knight Theatre. Tickets begin at $34. 8 p.m. There are multiple performances Feb. 9-14.

SATURDAY

Fairy House Festival: Fairy Houses are whimsical habitats built by children, families, gardeners and nature lovers. This is a fun activity that everyone can enjoy and building fairy houses reconnects people with nature. Join Latta Plantation 10 a.m.-4 p.m. for its second annual festival -- in your best fairy or gnome costume -- that will inspire appreciation of the environment with storytelling, activities and games, all focused on fairies and nature.

Parents Night Out: Celebrate Valentine’s Day a little early by dropping off your child, between the ages of 3-10, 4-8 p.m. at Noah’s Art SouthPark. Students will participate in several activities including art projects, free play, face painting, pizza, & cartoon. Call (704) 521-6657to register. $35 for 1 child, $20 for additional siblings.

Friendship Day: Celebrate your friends and families in the new KidScience exhibition at Discovery Place 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. $10 for adults, $8 for children ages 2-13.

Simon Kidgits Club Valentine Event: Visit Concord Mills 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. to celebrate Valentine's Day with all of your Kidgits friends. Enjoy music with Mr. Nigel, decorate cookies, create your own Valentine, roll pretzels with Auntie Anne's and much more. Located in the food court. $5 per child.

SUNDAY

Valentine Sweetheart Tours: Step back in time with your sweetheart as you tour the Historic Latta home and hear sweetheart stories from the past. Tours begin every hour starting at 1 p.m. $6 for adults, $5 for students, children 5 and younger are free.

Valentine's Day Family Hike: Bring your family out and spend time together outside exploring the Latta Nature Preserve on a special Valentine's Day hike from 2-4 p.m.
