UNC basketball coach Roy Williams said today there is a chance that reserve forward Travis Wear will return Wednesday night after missing four games with an ankle sprain.
But now his twin brother, David -- who played only eight minutes during UNC's loss at Boston College on Saturday because of an injured hip -- may be out.
"I don't think we'll have David at all for Wednesday night,'' Williams said. " In fact, they're going to do some tests ... tonight. ... I don't think we'll have David Wednesday unless things really change."
Williams said he didn't think there was one specific incident that caused David Wear's injury: "He's been having some clicking feeling, sound, in his hip, and it's been bothering him a little while ... it's just been bothering him for the last week. Friday, it bothered him during stretching. It was not with a basketball, it was not 5-on-5, it wasn't even 2-on-2. It starting bothering him, hurting him a great deal, during the stretching. We took him out and held him out the rest of the way."
Williams said whether Travis Wear plays against Florida State will depend on how he reacts to non-conference drills in practice today -- and whether he can return to contact practice on Tuesday.
"[If] we can get him into contact things tomorrow, there's a chance that he could play,'' Williams said. "But knowing that last week, we got [Tyler Zeller] in for one day of contact things the day before we played, and I didn't play him at Georgia Tech, so it's still up in the air as to whether we'd do it with Travis."
If David Wear can't go, he will be the eighth Tar Heel player this season to miss at least one game because of injury. In addition to Travis Wear, senior Marcus Ginyard missed four games because of a sore foot and sprained ankle; freshman Dexter Strickland missed a game because of a hamstring injury; Will Graves and reserve sophomore Justin Watts each missed a game because of sprained ankles, forward Tyler Zeller missed 10 games because of a broken bone in his foot and starter Ed Davis is sidelined for the rest of the season with a broken wrist.
