In the opening minutes of the game, forward Kyle Singler and center Brian Zoubek demonstrated just how ready Duke was to play.
Both of them chased a rebound out of bounds, with Singler crashing into the fourth row of seats. Although he threw the ball off Zoubek's foot, both players established that the Blue Devils weren't going to be outhustled.
You have to wonder how much the Olympics hurt ACC basketball ratings over the past two weeks.
It would have been easy for any sports fan Sunday to watch the riveting Canada vs. USA gold medal hockey game instead of the beginning of the Clemson-Florida State snoozer.
And after Duke opened a 20-4 lead on Virginia, it would have been easy even for a Blue Devils fan to switch the channel to NBC to watch the closing ceremonies.
Virginia's gorgeous John Paul Jones Arena has luxury boxes, an incredible scoreboard and all the bells and whistles you'd want out of a basketball building, but one of the features takes it a step too far.
The rims are miked so if the ball hits them, a clang echoes through the arena. This is a common feature at NBA arenas, but you have to wonder if those clangs hurt the confidence of a Cavaliers team that entered the game 11th in the ACC in field-goal percentage (.429).
