MOORESVILLE
NASCAR drivers David Gilliland and Travis Kvapil are scheduled to join other volunteers this morning to begin work on Hope Park, a 20,000-square-foot, motorsports-themed community playground at Lowe's YMCA.
The park will be for all Lake Norman area families and will be fully accessible to children and adults of all ages and abilities.
Various NASCAR drivers and their foundations, teams, tracks and sponsors have committed financially or with volunteers, products and goods, including Daytona International Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway, Darlington Raceway, Penske Racing, Red Bull Racing, Matt and Katie Kenseth, the Tony Stewart Foundation and the Dale Earnhardt Jr. Foundation.
Volunteers are expected to complete the park on Sunday.
