Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials have begun asking the public for input on the 2011-12 academic calendar.
A committee of CMS teachers, administrators and parents have developed two proposed calendars for the 2011-12 year, including various options for teacher workdays and holidays. Both calendars meet state requirements, including:
215 total days, divided among regular classroom days, teacher workdays, annual leave days, and holidays.
180 classroom days, starting no earlier than Aug. 25 and ending no later than June 10.
15 teacher workdays, including one before the first day of classes and one at the end of each academic quarter.
10 holidays, one of which must be Veterans Day
10 annual leave days
10 weather make-up days
The public will be able to vote on the two options, which are available on the CMS Web page, www.cms.k12.nc.us.
The poll ends at 11:59 p.m. March 17. Superintendent Peter Gorman will review the results, evaluate comments made by staff and the public, and decide if changes should be made to either calendar. Gorman then will recommend one calendar to the school board, with a vote expected in April.
