Patients' choice: Dr. Beth Archer, a board-certified internist with University Medical Associates in Huntersville, has been recognized as a Patients' Choice doctor for the second year in a row by Mix Medical Inc. Fewer than 6 percent of the nation's 720,000 active physicians are awarded this honor. Patients provided online feedback rating components such as bedside manner and doctor-patient face time. In addition to her Patients' Choice award, she also was recently recognized as a Top Physician of America by the Consumer Research Council of America. She has been a practicing internist for more than 15 years.

Yuk it up: The third annual LaughMS benefit event will be April 27 at The Comedy Zone Lake Norman, above The Galway Hooker, 17044 Kenton Drive. Doors open at 7 p.m. The show will end at 9:30. Free energy talk: Jim Rogers, president and CEO of Duke Energy, will present "The Energy Industry's Search for Greener Power" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Smith 900 Room of the Alvarez College Union at Davidson College. The public address will serve as the keynote lecture for a weekend-long student conference on "The Global Energy Challenge." Public welcome. Details: 704-894-2440.
