I am one of you and ready to listen

  • Send us your news

If you have news about your school, church, club, sports team or your family - we want to know about it. Here's my promise to you as the editor of South Charlotte News: We are here to listen and tell your stories.

Our mission is to focus on news from your neighborhoods and communities - to ensure that your accomplishments and those of your neighbors are published in our newspapers and on our websites.

And I also promise that when you call us, e-mail us or interact with us in your neighborhoods, we will always listen to your needs.

What is the foundation of my promise?

First, I am your neighbor.

I graduated from South Mecklenburg High School in 1972.

Second, I have 30 years of experience as a journalist.

After heading off to East Carolina University and later to three newspaper jobs, two in Maryland and one in New York, I returned to Charlotte to work for the Observer in April 1983. I have lived in south Charlotte for most of that time, so I know our community well.

Leading our community news coverage is a return to my roots as a journalist. Fresh out of college, I started a weekly community newspaper in Baltimore County. I never forgot the feeling of being the editor and meeting people in their neighborhoods.

It was exhilarating to be that close to readers.

I look forward to rekindling that spirit again with my neighbors in South Charlotte News.

We have many communities to cover in our weekly edition:

Ballantyne, Pineville, Blakeney, Stonecrest, Piper Glen, Arboretum and surrounding areas.

I will be talking with you again soon. Let me know how I can help tell your stories.

The Charlotte Observer welcomes your comments on news of the day. The more voices engaged in conversation, the better for us all, but do keep it civil. Please refrain from profanity, obscenity, spam, name-calling or attacking others for their views.
