The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board may have eliminated the district’s TV station to save money, but people who want to keep an eye on the board can still watch reruns of its meeting this week.
CMS-TV Cable 3 will rebroadcast Tuesday’s meeting at 6 p.m. every day through Sunday, said LaTarzja Henry, head of communications. Video of regular meetings will also continue to be available online at www.cms.k12.nc.us/boe/Pages/SchoolBoardMeetings.aspx.
This week’s meeting was the first since all five employees of CMS-TV were laid off July 1, and officials had to figure out how to present meeting videos, Henry said. The board kept enough money in the budget to pay for the crew that works at the Government Center to keep taping regular meetings. Special meetings, such as this summer’s sessions on revamping student assignment for 2011-12, are not taped.
Some people have been surprised to see the station still running children’s shows and local programs after July 1. Henry said they’re seeing national programs that were paid for before the cut or reruns of local segments. By keeping the station on the air, it remains available to air board meetings, she said.
