CLEMSON, S.C. -- Clemson showed Saturday afternoon that it has a plan for life after C.J. Spiller.

The Tigers got 224 combined rushing yards from running backs Andre Ellington and Jamie Harper as they gradually wore down North Texas for a 35-10 victory in the season opener at Memorial Stadium.

In front of an announced crowd of 75,000 at Death Valley, the Tigers got a 60-yard touchdown run from Ellington on the game's second play from scrimmage. Later in the first half, quarterback Kyle Parker connected with Brandon Clear on a 70-yard touchdown pass as the Tigers built a 21-7 halftime lead.

Though North Texas dominated time of possession, the Tigers -- with 122 rushing yards from Ellington and 102 from Harper -- gradually pulled away in the second half.
