The top six spots in the Sweet 16 remain the same, but there's a lot of change this week.
Charlotte Catholic jumps from No. 10 to No. 7 after Friday's thrilling double-overtime win over Charlotte Country Day. Country Day falls one spot to No. 13. Catholic leaped over No. 8 Charlotte Latin, which visits the Cougars Friday night.
Independence lost its second game in a row and the Patriots fell from No. 9 to No. 16, the Patriots lowest ranking since their run to prominence began in 2000. Independence has been ranked in every poll since the start of the 2000 season.
Marvin Ridge, a 3A team, joins the poll this week and jumps all the way to No. 9. The Mavericks have outscored opponents 130-33 for coach Scott Chadwick.
Kannapolis Brown, playing for the second straight week without star running back Travis Riley, lost 20-7 to Thomasville and dropped out of the poll. Brown was No. 7 last week. Also dropping out was former No. 14 Salisbury, which lost for the first time to China Grove Carson last week.
Clover (S.C.) beat its third straight N.C. team and moved to No. 14, up two spots.
