Duke Observations

With his next win, Duke's Mike Krzyzewski will tie former North Carolina legend Dean Smith for second place on the Division I career wins list.

Krzyzewski has 878 wins and can tie Smith on Dec.20 when the Blue Devils play Elon. Krzyzewski missed his postgame news conference Saturday because of an undisclosed family situation.

Duke sophomore Mason Plumlee was held to three points and two rebounds during 11 unspectacular minutes.

This is the same player who carried the Blue Devils with 25 points and 12 rebounds during a Nov.22 win against Marquette.

Plumlee seems to play better against stronger competition and sometimes struggles against inferior opponents.

It's a tribute to the national appeal of Duke that its game against Saint Louis was televised by CBS.

Is Duke (or for that matter North Carolina) against a mediocre opponent really worth a national TV broadcast? The TV executives who make these decisions obviously know what the ratings say.

But it seems like most college basketball fans would have better things to do than tune in for this game.
