Observations: Elon - Duke

By Luke DeCock

It might have been a record-setting night for Mike Krzyzewski, but he wasn't the only championship-winning coach in the house. Bill Cowher, whose daughter has dated Duke forward Ryan Kelly since they went to Raleigh Ravenscroft together, sat behind the Blue Devils' bench.

After Elon's Jack Isenbarger tried to take Kyle Singler off the dribble at one end of the court - he got as far as the baseline, where he kicked the ball out for a missed 3-point attempt - Singler quickly spotted up at the other end for a long 3-pointer. The score extended a Duke run to 14-0. It prompted an Elon timeout.

Nolan Smith picked up his third foul with 3 minutes, 56 seconds left in the first half, prompting a long conversation between Krzyzewski and referee Jamie Luckie, who made the offensive-foul call. Luckie also called the next one quickly against Duke on the defensive end as well. You'd never know Duke had won nine straight with Luckie refereeing.
