Memphis Grizzlies rookie Greivis Vasquez, who was known for years for his colorful antics at Duke and other ACC arenas, attended Sunday's game wearing a shirt trumpeting the Terrapins' share of the ACC title.
He once called Cameron Indoor Stadium "my house," and had outstanding games at Duke as a freshman (one rebound short of a triple double) and sophomore (25 points, eight rebounds, seven assists).
Vasquez hugged referee Bryan Kersey while entering the arena, but stood up to question a puzzling offensive foul call against Maryland by Les Jones.
"Sit down Greivis," the fans chanted.
The Grizzlies visit the Charlotte Bobcats tonight.
Duke's students love to taunt Vasquez, but they've got to respect a guy who was an excellent point guard and made the game fun with his exchanges with the crowd at Cameron.
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski won't be placing his halftime speech from Sunday night in the archives for use at some point later on.
The Blue Devils allowed Maryland to score the first seven points of the second half after holding a 32-31 lead at halftime. Krzyzewski was asked what he thought of the start to the second half.
"I thought whatever we told them [at halftime] was not working," he said. "In fact, I was sure it was not working. We gave up seven points in a minute and two seconds. And we shot two air balls, I think."
Alex Murphy , a 6-foot-8 forward who's rated as the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2012, sat one row behind the Duke bench.
Duke's students greeted him with the familiar chant of "Alex Murphy, come to Duke."
