Davidson midfielder Alex Caskey was selected by the Seattle Sounders in the third round (47th overall) of Thursday's Major League Soccer draft.
Caskey started all 76 matches during his four-year Davidson career. He led the Wildcats in scoring last season with seven goals and four assists and made the all-Southern Conference first team for a third consecutive year.
At last week's MLS scouting combine in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Caskey scored a goal in one of the three games he played. "I think that showed I can play on a high level, at least against guys I'm being judged against to get to the pros," he said.
Caskey heads to Seattle next week for rookie camp.
Other North Carolina players chosen Thursday: Defender Jalil Anibaba (Chicago, ninth overall); defender Eddie Ababio (Colorado, 18th); midfielder Michael Farfan (Philadelphia, 23rd), and midfielder Stephen McCarthy (New England, 24th).
Duke midfielder Cole Grossman went in the second round to Columbus, and N.C. State defender Tyler Lassiter was taken by New York in the second round.
The top overall pick in the draft was forward Omar Salgado, 17, from El Paso, Texas, by the Vancouver Whitecaps. Salgado plays for the U.S. under-20 national team.
