Duke's students brought lots of energy (and lots of body paint) to the game, but weren't incredibly clever.
They shouted "Cry, Roy, cry," at Roy Williams.
They chanted "Where's Larry" in reference to suddenly departed North Carolina point guard Larry Drew II.
But Brian King, the Presbyterian fan who was booted from the Smith Center last season, thankfully appears to have enjoyed his 15 minutes of fame. If he was at the game, he wasn't easily visible.
And the fans didn't give highly recruited freshman Harrison Barnes, who used Skype to make his commitment to North Carolina rather than Duke, too much of a hard time.
Students seated behind the press table said coach Mike Krzyzewski told them, without calling anybody by name, that no one player is bigger than the rivalry and asked them to focus their energy on cheering for their own team.
Midway through the first half, somebody in the crowd behind the scorer's table threw something about the size of a cell phone on the floor as North Carolina rushed up the court on a fast break. Tar Heels forward John Henson ran around the object as rightfully angry coach Williams ran onto the floor and kicked it out of the way as play continued.
Leslie McDonald's 10 minutes off the bench in the first half for North Carolina were huge.
With starting shooting guard Dexter Strickland in foul trouble, McDonald made a 3-pointer with the shot clock running down and a three-point play for six huge points that helped prevent Duke from mounting a comeback.
