While on vacation in Miami in July 2010, Kimani and Kisha got engaged at one of the trendiest restaurants there named B.E.D. Their reservations were for 8 p.m., which included a 5-course meal and a mini-Broadway show. During the course of the meal, unknown to Kisha, Kimani spoke to the waitress about getting on stage with a microphone to pop the big question. The waitress said he had to wait until after 11 p.m. to get the microphone, but was more than welcome to go on stage between the performances and yell it at the top of his lungs.
By 10:30 p.m., Kisha was ready to go as she was getting tired and irritated. They had been up since 7 a.m. and had enjoyed a full day of sightseeing, water sports and lounging on the beach. At about 10:40 p.m., they prepared to leave. While leaving, Kimani walked up on stage and tried to get Kisha to go with him. Earlier in the night, he had asked her if she would go dance with him on the stage and she told him she was not getting up there and refused to get on the stage. The waitress told her she was very special and should go up there. His plan worked; she thought they were going to dance.
Once Kisha got on stage, the audience starting chanting, Take it off!" Kimani reached for her hand and said to her, You know how much I love you, right? He then dropped to one knee. The audience went wild. They were screaming, What you gonna do, girl? You better say yes!"
Kisha remembers not being able to hear him because of the audience cheers. "It also took me by surprise and I was in a state of brief shock. I saw the ring, stretched out my hand and said, 'Yes!' Everyone in the restaurant was cheering.
As they enjoyed their complimentary champagne, people were coming over to congratulate them. Needless to say, Kisha was not ready to go now and they stayed another 45 minutes basking in the afterglow.
Later, Kimani told Kisha what he said while he was on his knee: I want nothing more than for you to spend the rest of your life with me, 'Will you marry me?' She smiled and then paused. She was worried that he hadn't gone through the proper channels. Kimani assured her that he had gotten her father's and mother's blessings a few weeks earlier. He was so proud of her parents for not spilling the beans.
That evening became one of the most romantic days that they will share. It was a very memorable moment.
Kisha and Kimani will be married in Spring 2011.Continue reading real wedding stories! Up next: 'An international affair'
