A North Mecklenburg High School senior died Tuesday night after police say she pulled her car into the path of a truck in north Charlotte.
Kiara Simone Wright, 18, died after the 6 p.m. wreck on Browne Road at DeArmon Road, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Two passengers in Wrights car were seriously injured.
Wright tried to make a left turn in her 1994 Mazda 626 from DeArmon Road onto Browne Road, police said. Her car was struck in the driver-side door by a 2007 Ford F-150 extended-cab truck.
Wright was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where she died of her injuries more than two hours after the wreck.
The passengers in her car -- Xavier Joplin, 19, and Cameron Brown, 21 -- suffered serious injuries and were hospitalized at CMC.
The driver of the truck, Jeremiah Aponte, 31, was treated at Presbyterian-Huntersville Hospital. Police say he suffered minor injuries.
After Wrights death, her friends mourned her loss on Facebook and Twitter.
May the Lord bless us and keep us strong in this sad time of grief, wrote one classmate on Twitter. RIP Kiara Wright.
Joplin, who police said was sitting in the front seat beside Wright at the time of the wreck, posted a message on Facebook early Wednesday morning, saying he loved Wright and planned to marry her someday.
The girl of my dreams, the girl i loved wit all my heart is (gone) foreva, he wrote. But will neva be forgotten.
Police are still investigating the collision.
