Teen to compete for national crown

Less than a year ago, Devin Gant had not competed in a pageant and now she's Miss Teen North Carolina - World 2011 and is headed to Texas soon to compete for the national title.

Gant, 18, is the daughter of Dale and Joan Gant. She lives in University City with her family and attends Hickory Grove Baptist Christian School.

Gant, who was recently accepted to High Point University, was looking for ways to pay for college.

She entered the local Miss Teen USA pageant and placed third.

In March, Gant competed in the Miss Teen North Carolina - World competition and placed first.

The Miss Teen United States-World pageant will be held in Houston, Texas, in June and July. Devin and her mother will fly to Texas on June 26. The pageant includes activities all week with the final crowning event on July 2.

Part of the prize package is a $5,000 scholarship that will be awarded over four year of school.
