A new Charlotte magazine targeted at baby boomers debuts today.
Vibrant Living is the first English-language publication from La Noticia Publishing Co., which publishes the 22,000-distribution La Noticia weekly newspaper targeted at the region's Hispanic residents.
Hilda Gurdian, the magazine's editor and publisher, says Vibrant Living will distribute 30,000 copies six times a year through Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods stores and about 600 other points in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Rowan, Union and York counties. It also has an online presence at www.vibrantlivingmagazine .com .
Despite the recession-driven downturn in the publishing sector that has claimed titles like the Charlotte editions of the Rhinoceros Times and Skirt! magazine, Gurdian said she thinks it's a good time to launch.
"I think this is the best time because nothing is happening so people are excited to see something fresh," she said Monday.
Its first issue has a cover story on Charlotte advertising and marketing executive Elaine Lyerly and articles on beauty and health, two key interests of the targeted age 50-plus demographic, Gurdian said.
"This group has disposable income, they like to feel good, look good. They spend money around those two areas. They like to spend money on cosmetics, even plastic surgery. It's a great segment."
