Mecklenburg County commissioners narrowly adopted a budget on June 7th that would lower the property tax rate by two cents, but still lead to higher bills for nearly 57 percent homeowners. That is because most property values rose after the county's reappraisal this year.

The calculation is based on the original property values sent this spring, and the adopted county tax rate of 81.66 cents per $100 of assessed value. It estimates only the county portion of your bill and doesn't include any taxes owed to the city or a town.
If your tax value has changed because of an appeal, you can calculate your bill by dividing your property value by 100 then multiplying it by 0.8166.
