Repairs under way to Hickory sinkhole

By Steve Lyttle
slyttle@charlotteobserver.com

Crews are making repairs to a sinkhole that developed last month on U.S. 70 in Hickory.

The sinkhole, caused by the collapse of the supports for a drainage pipe, happened May 17 in front of Valley Hills Mall. Crews are replacing the drainage pipe and have closed two of the three westbound lanes.

Traffic delays are expected in the area this week. Crews hope to finish repairs by Saturday.
