Knights get to bullpen to knock off Red Sox

By Tyler Kepner
Observer News Services

PAWTUCKET, R.I. The Pawtucket Red Sox began an eight-game homestand Saturday night. Offense still was elsewhere.

Freddy Dolsi and three Charlotte relievers combined on a six-hitter, and the Knights scored their runs during the final three innings for a 3-1 Class AAA International League baseball win.

Pawtucket has dropped four in a row and has just six runs during the past 40 innings. The series will continue at 1:05 p.m. today when the Knights will send Matt Zaleski (1-2, 7.91 ERA) to the mound against Gastonia native and Bessemer City High product Kevin Millwood (1-0, 4.82).

The Red Sox chased Dolsi in the sixth. Hector Luna singled with two outs and scored on Nate Spears' double.

Charlotte, however, tied the score in the seventh and went ahead during the eighth on a home run by Andrew Garcia. The Knights added a run during the ninth.

Before the seventh inning, Brandon Duckworth and Franklin Morales had their way with the Charlotte hitters. Duckworth gave up one hit over five innings. Morales, beginning his major league rehabilitation assignment, added a scoreless inning.

Scott Atchison (1-1) took the loss, allowing Garcia's homer.
