The CEOs of the 50 largest publicly traded companies in North Carolina made a collective $254 million in fiscal 2010, up more than 25 percent from the year before. This is the latest information available; the Observer will be providing a 2011 update later this year.
Many chief executives received big payoffs as their companys stock and earnings bounced out of the 2009 economic rut. Others saw their pay increase from things like large retirement payouts. The compensation figures include salary, bonus, stock, options, perks and above-market interest on deferred pay.
