Hospitality services company Compass Group USA Inc. said Monday it will bring 200 jobs to Charlotte as it moves some corporate positions to its headquarters here.
Jobs will range from clerical to managerial in the fields of business development, finance, human resources, legal, purchasing and information technology, company spokeswoman Sarah Hada said.
The average annual salary will be $52,500 excluding benefits, with actual salaries varying by job type. The Mecklenburg County average annual wage is $51,584.
Compass Group USA, which currently employs more than 1,000 at its Charlotte headquarters, is a subsidiary of London-based Compass Group PLC. Since the company's North American arm came to Charlotte about 17 years ago, it has served clients including Microsoft, Caterpillar and IBM, and has catered events such as the Academy Awards and the Ryder Cup.
The company plans to make an $8.5 million capital investment over the next four years that will go toward property construction and improvements.
It's not clear where in Charlotte the expansion will take place since lease negotiations are ongoing at its current location on Yorkmont Road, Hada said.
The state agreed Monday to provide up to $1.7million in incentives to the company if it meets performance targets through a Job Development Investment Grant.
"The fact that international corporations, which clearly have a choice as to where they do business, continue to bring these kinds of projects to North Carolina proves that our investment in education and job training is paying off," Gov. Bev Perdue said.
Kati Hynes, vice president for economic development at the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, said the headquarters jobs would be a boost for the county, which had almost 45,000 unemployed in April.
"We work very hard to keep international companies here in Charlotte, and to bring these types of headquarters jobs into the market is really great."
