Authorities say suspect was willing to pay $1,500 to have her ex-husband killed

The FBI has arrested a Georgia woman whom authorities said tried to hire a hit man to kill her ex-husband at a Cracker Barrel restaurant in Concord.

Her asking price: $1,500.

Enid Albertha Collins, 47, was charged Friday with using interstate commerce facilities in her attempt to arrange the killing. The dispute with her ex-husband centered on the custody and support of the former couple's twin daughters.

According to a criminal complaint filed June 30, Collins of Lawrenceville, Ga., an Atlanta suburb, sought help in finding someone to kill Andre Tyrone Davis of Virginia. The murder was to take place last Friday at the Cracker Barrel off Exit 60 of Interstate 85.

Reached by phone Tuesday, Davis declined to comment.

The office of Collins' court-appointed attorney, Rahwa Gebre-Egziabher of Charlotte, also declined comment.

Court documents reveal that FBI Special Agent Wendell Cosenza of Norfolk, Va., handled the investigation. It involves three recorded telephone conversations dated April 20, May 4, and May 11 between Collins and a cooperating witness.

The witness, who said in the complaint that he has known Collins for more than 20 years, said Collins wanted him to help find a killer. The witness reported Collins to the Virginia Beach Police Department on April 26.

Collins told the witness that the federal government had revoked her tax refund due to her outstanding child-support payments. She told him she had already spent the refund but made it clear that she would come up with the money to hire the hit man.

Davis, who has custody of the daughters, planned to rendezvous with Collins at the Cracker Barrel to deliver the twins. It's not clear if the meeting ever took place.

Collins is scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge David Cayer on Friday.
