Joshua Gerrard, a rising eighth-grader at Northwest School of the Arts in Charlotte, collected donations from community members to buy instruments for student violinists from low-income families, raising a total of $922: enough for two full violin sets for rising middle-schoolers.

Aram Bryan of Community School of the Arts advised him, and chose the two recipients: "It was hard, but there were definitely two who stood out. They were extremely thrilled and felt very fortunate." Said Joshua: "The whole community meshing together is really important."
