Road sign carries 'Impeach Obama' message

By Steve Lyttle

An electronic road sign in Union County carried an "Impeach Obama" message during part of the weekend, several motorists reported.

The sign is at Unionville-Indian Trail and Ridge roads in northwest Union County, and it was placed there by the N.C. Department of Transportation to warn motorists of construction work ahead. Hackers are suspected of changing the message on the sign.

Motorists told the Observer they saw the message early Sunday. The message was gone Monday morning, apparently after the DOT was notified.

Hacking into the electronics of message signs is not new to the Charlotte area. The same thing happened on S.C. 160 in York County in March. Someone changed the message from a construction warning to a notice about "Zombies ahead."
