Whether you are looking to add a personal touch to your wedding or just trying to save money, do-it-yourself projects can be a fun way to add some personality and keep your wallet happy. Here are some helpful DIY tips and ideas to help you plan your big day!

Save the dates, invitations, programs, oh my!

Get creative and do the save-the-dates, invitations and programs … yourself! You can find templates online that will make it easy and still look professional. You can choose through different styles, fonts, colors and themes to match the vision of your wedding. All you’ll need is some pretty paper.

Centerpieces that won’t leave your piggybank in pieces

Many couples opt for lush flowers for their centerpieces, but let’s face it: flowers aren’t cheap. Look at your local craft store or Target for different sizes and styles of jars. You can fill the jars with fruit, different kinds of candy or water with floating candles. You can find modern jars and glass containers or you can stick to the old-fashioned Mason jar. You don’t need to overspend on the centerpieces – just use your creativity.

Not your average guest book

Think out of the box for your guest book. Have you and your husband-to-be pick out your favorite children’s books from when you were kids and have your guests sign in the front and back. Then when you have your own kids you can share the books with them. Another idea is you can set up a station with pretty note cards, stickers, stamps and colored pens. Have your guests make you a card and then they can put it in a big clear glass jar. After the wedding, you can put all the cards in an album or scrapbook.

Yes, we’re making it personal

Your wedding should be a reflection of who you are as a couple. Be sure to add fun personal touches. Make your own table number cards for the reception. Under the large number, write a fun fact about you and your groom. It might be how you met, where your first date was, or why your “first dance” song has special meaning. You can use an online template to make these. It’ll generate some conversation and add a special touch! Also as a decorative item, make a “timeline” of your relationship. Using colorful note cards and photos take your guests on your journey to matrimony. You can clothespin the cards and photos onto pretty ribbon and hang it somewhere for you guests to see.
