Are you going to include a ring bearer and flower girl in your wedding? Both bridal party positions are longstanding traditions and a great way to utilize some younger members of your family and friends. If you are planning to include a ring bearer or flower girl, then here is what you need to know.
Ring bearerThe ring bearer is generally a young boy between the ages of 4 and 8. He may be a nephew or simply a family friend. The ring bearer can also be a girl or if youre daring enough, even a pet. Traditionally, the ring bearer will walk down the aisle just before the flower girl. He carries a small pillow with the rings tied securely on top. You can buy the pillow or make your own or you may opt to not even use a pillow. On Etsy.com, you can purchase little ring bearer plates that you can personalize with your names and wedding date or even a cute saying.
Flower girlThe flower girl and the tradition of walking before the bride and tossing petals date back to old English tradition. This is an adorable way to include a niece, or family friend. Shell usually be 4 to 8 years old. Shell carry a little basket and leave behind a pretty path of petals. You can personalize the basket with ribbons or other small adornments. Complete your flower girls dress with a cute pair of ballet flats. If you want an extra special touch you could even tie a tiny bell or two to the bow in front of the ballet flats. As she walks down the aisle youll hear a little jingle.
Gift ideas for the ring bearer/flower girlHead to your bookstore or to Amazon.com and you will find childrens books about being a ring bearer or flower girl. Give them the book before the wedding so they can learn about what theyll be doing, how important it is and how fun itll be! The book will be a nice keepsake after the wedding as well. A nice gift for a flower girl is always jewelry. You can personalize a necklace or bracelet and then shell have something she can wear the day of the wedding. You can also give them toys or a disposable camera to keep them busy at the reception.
