Knights drop 2 games to Red Sox

FORT MILL The Charlotte Knights managed only one run in each half of a doubleheader against the Pawtucket Red Sox at Knights Stadium on Tuesday, falling 6-1 in the first game and 5-1 in the second.

In the early bout, the Red Sox snagged an early lead in the first inning on a Ryan Lavarnway two-run homer. Lavarnway homered again in the sixth inning off Knights reliever Dan Remenowsky, and Scott Carroll added a homer in the eighth. Red Sox reliever Scott Atchison struck out five through three scoreless innings to earn the win. Zaleski fell to 4-5 this season in the rain-shortened start.

In the second game, Pawtucket starting pitcher Matt Fox had a perfect game through 5 2/3 innings until Jordan Danks broke it up with a single to left-center field. The hit was followed by another RBI-double from Garcia that scored Danks for the Knights' only run.

Lars Anderson hit his 27th double of the season in the first to give the Red Sox the lead.Pawtucket later scored on a two-run homer from Daniel Nava in the fifth inning. Fox earned the win, striking out eight through six innings, while Knights starter Deunte Heath (2-6) took the loss.
