The Carolinas will get a good look at the Republican presidential field this week with several candidates, including Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry, expected at fundraisers and other events in both states.
Bachmann, a Minnesota congresswoman, has scheduled a fundraising breakfast in Charlotte on Wednesday at The Morehead Inn in Dilworth.
Attendees must pay at least $100 per person to gain entry, with other tickets of up to $500 for the host committee level, according to an invitation from the Bachmann for President campaign.
Meanwhile, Texas Gov. Perry is set to be the keynote speaker at a Friday event for the South Carolina Republican Party to raise money for next year's first-in-the-South primary. Also scheduled to attend the $75-per person luncheon in Columbia are Texas Rep. Ron Paul and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, said Matt Moore, the GOP's executive director in S.C.
Both Bachmann and Perry also are expected to make other stops in the Palmetto State this week.
The fundraisers come after a busy weekend that saw Perry formally enter the presidential race and Bachmann win the Ames Straw Poll in Iowa. Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty ended his bid for the GOP nomination on Sunday after finishing third in the Iowa vote.
