To many Americans, the Navy SEALs killed in a helicopter attack in Afghanistan on Aug. 6 are heroes, Mooresville mother Suzanne Vogel said. Her five children also knew them as daddies and friends.
Her husband retired a year ago from the Naval Special Warfare community and knew many of the SEALs. So the couples three youngest children Alexandra, 6; Hunter, 9; and Austin Vogel, 14 wanted to do something in thanks. They worked together on artwork for a patriotic sticker they distribute in the Mooresville area.
Theyre giving them away, but hope for tax-deductible donations to the Naval Special Warfare Foundation, which helps families of dead or wounded SEALs. (Donate at www.navysealfoundation.org or text SEAL 90999 to make an automatic $10 donation.) The Lake Norman High football team has worn the stickers on the backs of their helmets since opening night, and NASCAR truck series driver Josh Richards is having his team print more stickers to distribute.
