Special rabies program Saturday

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police's Animal Care & Control will hold a rabies awareness and prevention program Saturday at the animal shelter in west Charlotte.

The program takes place on World Rabies Day and will include free rabies vaccinations.

The clinic is scheduled from 7 to 11 a.m., and the line will be cut off at 11 a.m. However, everyone in line at 11 a.m. will be served. Officials ask pet owners to keep dogs on leashes and cats in carriers.

Pet owners will need identification, to show they live in Mecklenburg County.

The shelter is at 8315 Byrum Drive. The free vaccinations are being made possible by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control and by Pfizer Animal Health.
